Gateway Blocks A & B, One SE8, Deals Gateway, Blackheath Road, Deptford SE8 4HX
These are the last two of the 14 blocks of apartments at One SE8, the marketing name for a mixed-use development whose architecture and range of facilities and services offered to residents has brought Docklands style to Deptford. Blocks A and B, seen here, will complete this development of more than 800 new homes (including 47 apartments for social housing) on a former waterworks site of 8.3 acres next to the Docklands Light Railway station at Deptford Bridge.
These gateway blocks are now under construction and will have a total of 150 apartments in blocks of eight and ten storeys high when they are completed next year: 51 in Block A and 99 in Block B. These range from studios and live/work units to one- and two-bedroom apartments. Sale prices have not yet been released, but apartments in the latest phases have ranged from studios at £164,000 up to two-bedroom penthouses at £450,000.
Blocks A and B are intended to be landmark buildings, so they have been designed to be a significant visual event, using a radical change in colours, material, architectural style and form to make them more memorable. RMA Architects, who were the planning architects for the whole of One SE8, have only done the detailed design of the three blocks of social housing in Phase 3 and Blocks A and B in Phase 4. The eight blocks in Phases 1 and 2 were detailed by Broadway Malyan.
